Azizullah Solemanshah

Afghanistan

My name is Aziz Azizullah Soleimansha, but I go by Aziz Shah to make it shorter. I'm the president of the Afghan Community Association.

I support my people and try to help newcomers.

My family and I moved to Cleveland in February 2005. My father, who was already living here, sponsored us to come from overseas. He had settled in Cleveland and mentioned that it was a nice place, with weather similar to back home. He also liked the fact that there was a large Muslim community and a lot of diversity, with people from different cultures. So, he decided we should stay here.

After arriving in Cleveland, we explored the city and decided that it was the right place for us. The diversity was a key factor in our decision to stay, as there are people from various backgrounds here.

What I like about Cleveland is that it's a smaller city, and a lot of people from other states may not be familiar with Ohio. But when you mention Cleveland, they recognize it.

One of the best things about Cleveland is its diversity. We have people from Pakistan, India, Puerto Rico, the U.S., Palestine, and many other cultures. The cost of living is affordable, and it’s relatively easy to find a job. Another thing I love about Cleveland is that people here are always willing to help one another. You can see this through organizations that support the community, churches helping those in need, and mosques where Muslims gather to pray and practice their religion.

Everyone here is supportive, and that’s what I really appreciate about this city.
