Amy Dolzine
Canada
My name is Amy Dolzine. I work for Ernst & Young as a technology consultant.
When I was eight, my dad got transferred from Ontario to Utah for a few years for work. He was in sales and marketing for a manufacturing company, so we were here on his work visa. After two years, we moved back to Canada. Then, when I was a sophomore in high school, we got lucky enough to get our green cards and we moved to St. Charles, Illinois, for another one of his jobs. I went to Denison University and moved here to Cleveland right after college, and I've never left.
I moved to Cleveland for my very first job without knowing a soul in this city. The people of Cleveland made it easy for me to make this my home, and I have never felt anything but welcome. Everyone was just so nice. And it’s affordable. The quality of life is amazing. I met my husband, my best friends and we've built a fulfilling and meaningful life in this community. I love it so much I became a US Citizen in 2016 and convinced my Aunt and sister (also Canadians, who are now also US Citizens) to join me here and we're so happy to be together.
You can do everything (in Cleveland) you can do in a big city—but it’s more affordable, there’s no traffic, and people are ridiculously nice. The food is amazing, and if you’ve lived in as many places as I have—Canada, Utah, Chicago—you realize there’s something really special about Cleveland. It’s unassuming, the people are kind, and there’s always something to do. You could do two things a day, every day, and never get bored.
